Built for Omarchy
My daily driver, and an OS I fervently believe in
Every machine I actually sit down at runs Omarchy — it's where this whole site was built, even though it deploys to ordinary Linux hosting like everything else on the web. It's not just my setup, it's a project I actively cheer for, and I think it deserves more than a link and a plugin list.
What Omarchy actually is
Omarchy is a complete Linux desktop built on Arch Linux, with the Hyprland tiling compositor and Quickshell as the desktop shell underneath it. It ships opinionated, themed, and ready to use out of the box — Neovim, Chromium, Obsidian, LibreOffice, Kdenlive, OBS Studio, even a retro Winamp-style music player — instead of handing you a bare tiling window manager and a wiki.
It was created by DHH (David Heinemeier Hansson, of Basecamp, HEY, and Rails fame), incubated at 37signals, and is now stewarded by the Omacom Foundation — which launched with $14.95M in funding and backing from names like Anthropic, OpenAI, 1Password, and Meta Superintelligence Labs. An Omarchy Core Team now shares responsibility for the distro's direction. It went from a personal dotfiles project to real institutional weight behind it, fast.
The philosophy
Beautiful and better, not easiest
Omarchy doesn't chase Windows or macOS familiarity. It calls itself “the malleable OS for the age of agents,” built to “vibe your way through every alteration, tweak, and desire” — edit config files by hand, live in the terminal, and shape the machine instead of adapting to it. “Be the Omarch and command your agent” isn't just marketing to me: it's a near literal description of how I work now, directing a small team of AI agents from inside the same desktop Omarchy gave me.
That’s the part I fervently believe in. It treats aesthetics as functional, not decorative — a machine that feels good to sit in front of gets used more and gets better results — and it treats the desktop as something you're supposed to own and reshape, not something a vendor hands you finished.
