Nine Point Labs

About

A dad in East Texas with a workshop

I’m Tim. Online I go by Tim Apple, which started as a joke and stuck. Nine Point Labs is where my technology, family life, faith, and a lot of half-finished ideas all live in one honest place.

Who I am

I’m a combat veteran and a semi-retired technologist. I work part-time at a managed service provider, and the rest of the week I’m in full dad mode, raising our kids alongside my wife in Whitehouse, Texas.

When I’m not staring at a monitor I’m in Tae Kwon Do with my daughters. Starting late in life has been equal parts joy and tendon pain, and worth every minute of both.

I write some of the code in these projects myself, but a lot of it comes from directing a small team of AI agents. What I can do reliably is see clearly what a tool should feel like, and be stubborn until it does.

The name

Why nine points?

I’m a member of the Baha’i Faith, and the number nine carries meaning there. It’s the largest single digit, and it’s often used as a symbol of completeness and of unity, especially the unity of humanity. Baha’i houses of worship have nine sides. The star in the logo has nine points for the same reason.

I don’t want that to read as a pitch. It’s just true, and it’s the quiet reason the lab tries to bring useful things together, build with optimism, and leave people a little better off than it found them.

Good influences

My favorite show is Ted Lasso and my favorite musician is Andy Grammer. Both are steady reminders that optimism can be practical, kindness can be strong, and you can have grit without cynicism.

A short history

Pleb One
Where this started: a Nostr-first project with a public relay, relay.pleb.one. The relay is still up — see the Nostr Tooling page for details.
Nine Point Labs
The bigger workshop that grew out of it, so I could build across Linux, the web, and open source without it all having to be about Nostr.
Persistwise
The first thing here with a price tag. Still small, still running, still mine.
Omostrich
The most personal project: the tool I use daily to post, and the reason my agents can post for me without ever touching my key.
