Making the Best Use of AI, One Job at a Time

This week was not about chasing a smarter model. It was about giving the tools I already have a real job and seeing whether that actually made an ordinary day feel lighter.

Hermes lives on this machine for a reason. The desktop, the Obsidian vault, the local tools — that is where the day actually happens. A cheap VPS can handle the pieces that need to keep running when the PC sleeps. Claude works alongside in the same vault. Some days he is right there in the middle of a tangle, like walking through ScreenConnect setup on Arch until the problem finally settled. Other days the journal just notes he did not have much to add, and that is fine. A quiet teammate is still a teammate.

Hey has been the place the day lands. I have been using the CLI to drop journal entries and even test a draft email, so the record does not have to wait until I am tired at night. What showed up was useful in a quiet way. It gave me a simple view of what actually moved and what stayed stuck, without any extra noise.

I kept Fizzy for the daily list because it is the one I already open every morning. No need to drag in another big system when a small one already fits.

Today I added Grok Bot to handle the admin side. Mail, calendar, notes, and a quick morning pass at what actually needs a reply. Blog drafts now go straight into the Writing/Blog folder that was already there. It is a different lane from Hermes on the desktop and Claude in the vault work, but they all write to the same place. As long as the jobs stay clear, nobody steps on anyone else.

Hermes has the same access to Hey and the vault, so there is always a backup if one side goes quiet. The Grok Bot version also lets me handle a few of those admin things straight from the phone without needing the laptop open.

It is starting to feel less like one magic box and more like a small crew that knows its assignments. One local agent that can touch the actual machine. One coding partner who already knows the vault structure. One admin helper that can greet the morning without five tabs. And a journal so I can look back in plain language and see whether any of it made the day easier.

Still early. Still learning the handoffs. I will keep tuning the jobs instead of hunting for a single assistant that tries to do them all.
